Places of interest in Varanasi:

River Front (Ghats)- there are about 100 bathing ghats that skirt the west bank of the Ganges. The most sacred ghats are considered Asi, Dasashwamedh Ghat, Manikarnika and Panchganga.

Kashi Vishwanath Temple-dedicated to Lord Shiva. The Shivalinga installed in the temple is the devotional focus of Varanasi. Foreigners are not allowed to enter.

Sarnath-the deer park where the Buddha first proclaimed the Dharma to the world. Several Buddhist structures were raised at Sarnath between the 3rd century BC and the 11th century AD, and today it presents the most expansive ruins amongst places on the Buddhist trail. Sarnath is 10 km from the holy city of Varanasi.

Central Institute Of Higher Tibetan Studies-the only of its kind in the world.
